NIGERIAN AMBASSADOR TO RECIEVE MARTHIN LURTHER KING AWARD

Nigeria's Ambassador to the US, Prof Ade Adefuye, has been selected to receive the Dr Martin Luther King Legacy Award for 2014.

The ceremony which is scheduled for 19 January 2014 in Washington DC, is in recognition of the envoy's intellectual contributions to the service of humanity.

The annual award ceremony is organised by the International Salute Group and pays tribute to the legacy of Dr Martin Luther King Jr.

Madeline Lawson, the chairman of International Salute Committee, conveyed the selection of Adefuye.

She said the committee recognised the distinguished leadership and contributions of individuals who have positively impacted the global community with the King Legacy Award and the Dorothy Height Leadership Award.

"For 2014, the committee has selected [Adefuye] to receive the King Legacy Award for International Service.

"The International Salute has been held annually since 1992, as a way of sharing King's historical work at home and abroad."

The ceremony would bring together a broad segment of the global community to reinforce the importance of continuing the work begun by King.

Past recipients of the award included Gen. Colin Powell, congressman John Lewis, Sen. Bob Dole, former UN Secretary-General, Kofi Annan and a host of ambassadors.
