EXCLUSIVE
By Shemmy Sholabomi
Former Nigeria goalkeeper Emmanuel Babayaro has tipped Stoke City forward Osaze Odemwingie to impress at the World Cup if he makes the final list of 23 players.
The Atlanta Olympics football gold medalist told Goal that the forward has great qualities that the Super Eagles need and he would help the team to success in Brazil.
“Osaze has confidence, experience and dedication which are the major ingredients and qualities needed to survive and achieve success at the World Cup,” Babayaro told Goal.
“I am very happy that the striker is in the team right now and he would prove himself in the three friendly matches lined up for the team as from tomorrow when the Eagles confront the Scotland national team in England,” he said.
Babayaro reasoned that the World Cup is not a place where Nigeria’s best should be left out and that he was happy that coach Stephen Keshi pardoned the player and included him in his list of 30.
“Osaze we all know has great qualities as a player and his experience and skills alone would pose threat to opponents. He also enjoyed a tremendous season most especially since he teamed up with Stoke City he has been in tremendous form. If he is picked for the World Cup, he will definitely prove all his doubters wrong.
“You can also see the beauty of having him alongside Emmanuel Emenike, Ahmed Musa and Victor Moses. These are very fast players and that is the tempo the modern game is played now and their combination would prove much more difficult for the team’s opponents to handle,” he explained.
like our facebook page @ www.facebook.com/gistitup
Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07255123448407547977noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5846787268162683185.post-63330888639781062832014-06-07T07:42:00.000-07:002014-06-07T07:46:47.684-07:00LIST OF TOP 50 EXCITING BLOGS IN THE WORLD
The Huffington Post:
The history of political blogging might usefully be divided into the periods pre- and post-Huffington. Before the millionaire socialite Arianna Huffington decided to get in on the act, bloggers operated in a spirit of underdog solidarity. They hated the mainstream media - and the feeling was mutual. Bloggers saw themselves as gadflies, pricking the arrogance of established elites from their home computers, in their pyjamas, late into the night. So when, in 2005, Huffington decided to mobilise her fortune and media connections to create, from scratch, a flagship liberal blog she was roundly derided. Who, spluttered the original bloggerati, did she think she was? SEE MORE AFTER CUT>>>
But the pyjama purists were confounded. Arianna's money talked just as loudly online as off, and the Huffington Post quickly became one of the most influential and popular journals on the web. It recruited professional columnists and celebrity bloggers. It hoovered up traffic. Its launch was a landmark moment in the evolution of the web because it showed that many of the old rules still applied to the new medium: a bit of marketing savvy and deep pockets could go just as far as geek credibility, and get there faster.
To borrow the gold-rush simile beloved of web pioneers, Huffington's success made the first generation of bloggers look like two-bit prospectors panning for nuggets in shallow creeks before the big mining operations moved in. In the era pre-Huffington, big media companies ignored the web, or feared it; post-Huffington they started to treat it as just another marketplace, open to exploitation. Three years on, Rupert Murdoch owns MySpace, while newbie amateur bloggers have to gather traffic crumbs from under the table of the big-time publishers.
2. Boing Boing
Lego reconstructions of pop videos and cakes baked in the shape of iPods are not generally considered relevant to serious political debate. But even the most earnest bloggers will often take time out of their busy schedule to pass on some titbit of mildly entertaining geek ephemera. No one has done more to promote pointless, yet strangely cool, time-wasting stuff on the net than the editors of Boing Boing (subtitle: A Directory of Wonderful Things). It launched in January 2000 and has had an immeasurable influence on the style and idiom of blogging. But hidden among the pictures of steam-powered CD players and Darth Vader tea towels there is a steely, ultra-liberal political agenda: championing the web as a global medium free of state and corporate control.
Boing Boing chronicles cases where despotic regimes have silenced or imprisoned bloggers. It helped channel blogger scorn on to Yahoo and Google when they kowtowed to China's censors in order to win investment opportunities. It was instrumental in exposing the creeping erosion of civil liberties in the US under post-9/11 'Homeland Security' legislation. And it routinely ridicules attempts by the music and film industries to persecute small-time file sharers and bedroom pirates instead of getting their own web strategies in order. It does it all with gentle, irreverent charm, polluted only occasionally with gratuitous smut.
Their dominance of the terrain where technology meets politics makes the Boing Boing crew geek aristocracy.
3. Techcrunch
Techcrunch began in 2005 as a blog about dotcom start-ups in Silicon Valley, but has quickly become one of the most influential news websites across the entire technology industry. Founder Michael Arrington had lived through the internet goldrush as a lawyer and entrepreneur before deciding that writing about new companies was more of an opportunity than starting them himself. His site is now ranked the third-most popular blog in the world by search engine Technorati, spawning a mini-empire of websites and conferences as a result. Business Week named Arrington one of the 25 most influential people on the web, and Techcrunch has even scored interviews with Barack Obama and John McCain.
With a horde of hungry geeks and big money investors online, Techcrunch is the largest of a wave of technology-focused blog publishers to tap into the market - GigaOm, PaidContent and Mashable among them - but often proves more contentious than its rivals, thanks to Arrington's aggressive relationships with traditional media and his conflicts of interest as an investor himself.
4. Kottke
One of the early wave of blogging pioneers, web designer Jason Kottke started keeping track of interesting things on the internet as far back as 1998. The site took off, boosted partly through close links to popular blog-building website Blogger (he later married one of the founders). And as the phenomenon grew quickly, Kottke became a well-known filter for surfers on the lookout for interesting reading.
Kottke remains one of the purest old-skool bloggers on the block - it's a selection of links to websites and articles rather than a repository for detailed personal opinion - and although it remains fairly esoteric, his favourite topics include film, science, graphic design and sport. He often picks up trends and happenings before friends start forwarding them to your inbox. Kottke's decision to consciously avoid politics could be part of his appeal (he declares himself 'not a fan'), particularly since the blog's voice is literate, sober and inquiring, unlike much of the red-faced ranting found elsewhere online.
A couple of key moments boosted Kottke's fame: first, being threatened with legal action by Sony for breaking news about a TV show, but most notably quitting his web-design job and going solo three years ago. A host of 'micropatrons' and readers donated cash to cover his salary, but these days he gets enough advertising to pay the bills. He continues to plug away at the site as it enters its 10th year.
5. Dooce
One of the best-known personal bloggers (those who provide more of a diary than a soapbox or reporting service), Heather Armstrong has been writing online since 2001. Though there were personal websites that came before hers, certain elements conspired to make Dooce one of the biggest public diaries since Samuel Pepys's (whose diary is itself available, transcribed in blog form, at Pepysdiary.com). Primarily, Armstrong became one of the first high-profile cases of somebody being fired for writing about her job. After describing events that her employer - a dotcom start-up - thought reflected badly on them, Armstrong was sacked. The incident caused such fierce debate that Dooce found itself turned into a verb that is used in popular parlance (often without users realising its evolution): 'dooced - to be fired from one's job as a direct result of one's personal website'.
Behind Dooce stands an army of personal bloggers perhaps not directly influenced by, or even aware of, her work - she represents the hundreds of thousands who decide to share part of their life with strangers.
Armstrong's honesty has added to her popularity, and she has written about work, family life, postnatal depression, motherhood, puppies and her Mormon upbringing with the same candid and engaging voice. Readers feel that they have been brought into her life, and reward her with their loyalty. Since 2005 the advertising revenue on her blog alone has been enough to support her family.
6. Perezhilton
Once dubbed 'Hollywood's most hated website', Perezhilton (authored by Mario Lavandeira since 2005) is the gossip site celebrities fear most. Mario, 29, is famous for scrawling rude things (typically doodles about drug use) over pap photos and outing closeted stars. On the day of Lindsay Lohan's arrest for drink-driving, he posted 60 updates, and 8m readers logged on.
He's a shameless publicity whore, too. His reality show premiered on VH1 last year, and his blogsite is peppered with snaps of him cuddling Paris Hilton at premieres. Fergie from Black Eyed Peas alluded to him in a song, and Avril Lavigne phoned, asking him to stop writing about her after he repeatedly blogged about her lack of talent and her 'freakishly long arm'.
Least likely to post 'Log on tomorrow for Kofi Annan's live webchat'
7. Talking points memo
At some point during the disputed US election of 2000 - when Al Gore was famously defeated by a few hanging chads - Joshua Micah Marshall lost patience. Despite working as a magazine editor, Marshall chose to vent on the web. Eight years later Talking Points Memo and its three siblings draw in more than 400,000 viewers a day from their base in New York.
Marshall has forged a reputation, and now makes enough money to run a small team of reporters who have made an impact by sniffing out political scandal and conspiracy. 'I think in many cases the reporting we do is more honest, more straight than a lot of things you see even on the front pages of great papers like the New York Times and the Washington Post,' he said in an interview last year. 'But I think both kinds of journalism should exist, should co-exist.'
Although his unabashed partisan approach is admonished by many old-fashioned American reporters, Marshall's skills at pulling together the threads of a story have paid dividends. Last year he helped set the agenda after George Bush covertly fired a string of US attorneys deemed disloyal to the White House. While respected mainstream media figures accused Marshall of seeing conspiracy, he kept digging: the result was the resignation of attorney general Alberto Gonzales, and a prestigious George Polk journalism award for Marshall, the first ever for a blogger.
8. Icanhascheezburger
Amused by a photo of a smiling cat, idiosyncratically captioned with the query 'I Can Has A Cheezburger?', which he found on the internet while between jobs in early 2007, Eric Nakagawa of Hawaii emailed a copy of it to a friend (known now only as Tofuburger). Then, on a whim, they began a website, first comprising only that one captioned photo but which has since grown into one of the most popular blogs in the world.
Millions of visitors visit Icanhascheezburger.com to see, create, submit and vote on Lolcats (captioned photos of characterful cats in different settings). The 'language' used in the captions, which this blog has helped to spread globally, is known as Lolspeak, aka Kitty Pidgin. In Lolspeak, human becomes 'hooman', Sunday 'bunday', exactly 'xackly' and asthma 'azma'. There is now an effort to develop a LOLCode computer-programming language and another to translate the Bible into Lolspeak.
Least likely to post 'Actually, dogs are much more interesting..."
9. Beppe Grillo
Among the most visited blogs in the world is that of Beppe Grillo, a popular Italian comedian and political commentator, long persona non grata on state TV, who is infuriated daily - especially by corruption and financial scandal in his country.
A typical blog by Grillo calls, satirically or otherwise, for the people of Naples and Campania to declare independence, requests that Germany declare war on Italy to help its people ('We will throw violets and mimosa to your Franz and Gunther as they march through') or reports on Grillo's ongoing campaign to introduce a Bill of Popular Initiative to remove from office all members of the Italian parliament who've ever had a criminal conviction. Grillo's name for Mario Mastella, leader of the Popular-UDEUR centre-right party, is Psychodwarf. 'In another country, he would have been the dishwasher in a pizzeria,' says Grillo. Through his blog, he rallied many marchers in 280 Italian towns. Least likely to post 'Sign up to our campaign to grant Silvo Berlusconi immunity'
10. Gawker
A New York blog of 'snarky' gossip and commentary about the media industry, Gawker was founded in 2002 by journalist Nick Denton, who had previously helped set up a networking site called First Tuesday for web and media entrepreneurs. Gawker's earliest fascination was gossip about Vogue editor Anna Wintour, garnered from underlings at Conde Nast. This set the tone for amassing a readership of movers and shakers on the Upper East Side, as well as 'the angry creative underclass' wishing either to be, or not be, like them, or both ('the charmingly incompetent X... the wildly successful blowhard'). Within a year Gawker's readers were making 500,000 page views per month. Nowadays the figure is 11m, recovering from a recent dip to 8m thanks to the showing of a Tom Cruise 'Indoctrination Video' which Scientologists had legally persuaded YouTube to take down. Gawker remains the flagship of Gawker Media, which now comprises 14 blogs, although gossiping by ex-Gawker insiders, a fixation on clicks (which its bloggers are now paid on the basis of) and fresh anxiety over defining itself have led some to claim Gawker has become more 'tabloidy' and celeb- and It-girl-orientated, and less New York-centric. But its core value - 'media criticism' - appears to be intact.
Least likely to post 'We can only wish Rupert Murdoch well with his new venture'
11. The Drudge Report
The Report started life as an email gossip sheet, and then became a trashy webzine with negligible traffic. But thanks to the decision in 1998 to run a scurrilous rumour – untouched by mainstream media – about Bill Clinton and a White House intern named Monica Lewinsky, it became a national phenomenon. Recent scoops include Barack Obama dressed in tribal garb and the fact Prince Harry was serving in Afghanistan. Drudge is scorned by journalists and serious bloggers for his tabloid sensibilities, but his place in the media history books is guaranteed. And much though they hate him, the hacks all still check his front page – just in case he gets another president-nobbling scoop.
Least likely to post 'Oops, one sec – just got to check the facts…'
12. Xu Jinglei
Jinglei is a popular actress (and director of Letter From An Unknown Woman) in China, who in 2005 began a blog ('I got the joy of expressing myself') which within a few months had garnered 11.5m visits and spurred thousands of other Chinese to blog. In 2006 statisticians at Technorati, having previously not factored China into their calculations, realised Jinglei's blog was the most popular in the world. In it she reports on her day-to-day moods, reflections, travels, social life and cats ('Finally the first kitten's been born!!! Just waiting for the second, in the middle of the third one now. It's midnight, she gave birth to another one'). She blogs in an uncontroversial but quite reflective manner, aiming to show a 'real person' behind the celebrity. Each posting, usually ending with 'I have to be up early' or a promise to report tomorrow on a DVD she is watching, is followed by many hundreds of comments from readers – affirming their love, offering advice, insisting she take care. Last year her blog passed the 1bn clicks mark.
13. Treehugger
Treehugger is a green consumer blog with a mission to bring a sustainable lifestyle to the masses. Its ethos, that a green lifestyle does not have to mean sacrifice, and its positive, upbeat feel have attracted over 1.8m unique users a month. Consistently ranked among the top 20 blogs on Technorati, Treehugger has 10 staff but also boasts 40 writers from a wide variety of backgrounds in more than 10 countries around the world, who generate more than 30 new posts a day across eight categories, ranging from fashion and beauty, travel and nature, to science and technology. Treehugger began as an MBA class project four years ago and says it now generates enough revenue from sponsorship and advertising to pay all its staffers and writers. It has developed a highly engaged community and has added popular services likeTreeHugger.tv, and a user-generated blog, Hugg. It was bought by the Discovery Channel last year for a rumoured $10m.
14. Microsiervos
Microsiervos, which began in 2001, took its name from Douglas Coupland's novel Microserfs, a diary entry-style novel about internet pioneers. It is run by Alvy, Nacho and Wicho, three friends in Madrid, who blog in Spanish. The second most popular blog in Europe and the 13th most popular in the world (according to eBizMBA), Microsiervos concerns itself with science, curiosities, strange reality, chance, games, puzzles, quotations, conspiracies, computers, hacking, graffiti and design. It is informal, friendly and humorous, moving from news of an eccentric new letter font to reflections on the discovery of the Milky Way having double the thickness it was previously thought to have.
15. TMZ
You want relentless celebrity gossip on tap? TMZ will provide it, and when we say relentless, we mean relentless. The US site is dripping with 'breaking news' stories, pictures and videos, and deems celeb activity as mundane as stars walking to their cars worthy of a video post. TMZ was launched in 2005 by AOL and reportedly employs around 20 writers to keep the celeb juice flowing. It pulls in 1.6m readers a month and is endlessly cited as the source for red-top celeb stories. It was the first to break Alec Baldwin's now infamous 'rude little pig' voicemail last April, for instance. TMZ prides itself on being close to the action, so close, in fact, a TMZ photographer had his foot run over by Britney Spears mid-meltdown. They auctioned the tyre-tracked sock on eBay in aid of US charity the Children's Defense Fund last autumn.
Least likely to post 'Paris is a metaphor for Third World debt'
16. Engadget
Engadget provides breaking news, rumours and commentary on, for instance, a camera able to track a head automatically, the very latest HD screen or 'visual pollution' concerns prompted by hand-held pico laser-projectors. The world's most popular blog on gadgets and consumer electronics, Engadget was founded by Peter Rojas in 2004 and won the Web Blogs Awards that year and each year since. Now part of Weblogs Inc (owned by AOL), it is offered on many other sites (including GoogleMail) as a default RSS feed, and is published in English, Spanish, Japanese and Chinese. Last year, a mistake confirmed Engadget's power - upon reporting a supposed email (which turned out to be a hoax) from Apple, informing Apple employees of a delay in the launch of iPhone, Apple's share price fell by 3 per cent within minutes. Rojas also co-founded rival gadget blog Gizmodo.
17. Marbury
No matter what happens between now and 4 November, you can be certain the US presidential election of 2008 will be among the most historically important and dramatic of any fought. Having an informed opinion will be a must, but if you are as yet unable to tell your Iowa Caucus from your Feiler Faster Thesis, Marbury – a British blog on American politics – is the place to start. The site's creator, Ian Leslie, is an ex-expat who fell for American politics during a four-year stint living in New York. The site signposts important events and interesting analyses, gives context and witty commentary on everything from the most serious speeches to the silliest election-themed YouTube clips. And West Wing fans will be pleased to note that the blog's name is a reference to the show's British ambassador to the United States, Lord John Marbury, who, appropriately enough, provided an eccentrically British but reliably insightful appraisal of American politics.
From Michelin-starred restaurants to street food and diners, she samples it all, and posts her thoughts and pictures to share with other foodie fans. She advises her readers on what cooking equipment to go for, posts recipe suggestions for them to try, and gives them a nudge in the direction of which food shows are worth a watch. She's not just famous on the net, she's attracted global coverage in the media with her writing, recipes and interviews appearing in such diverse publications as the New York Times, Le Monde and the Sydney Morning Herald.
Recently rated the 18th most influential blog in the world by Wikio, Basic Thinking, which has the tag line 'Mein Haus, Mein Himmel, Mein Blog', is run by Robert Basic of Usingen, Germany, who aims 'to boldly blog what no one has blogged before', and recently posted his 10,000th entry. Basic Thinking reports on technology and odds and ends, encouraging readers to rummage through an 1851 edition of the New York Times one minute and to contemplate the differences between mooses and elks the next.
20. The Sartorialist
As ideas go, this one is pretty simple. Man wanders around Manhattan with a camera. Spots someone whose outfit he likes. Asks if he can take a picture. Goes home and posts it on his blog. But the man in question is Scott Schuman, who had 15 years' experience working at the high-fashion end of the clothing industry before starting The Sartorialist. He's got a sharp eye for a good look, a gift for grabbing an on-the-hoof pic and an unwavering enthusiasm for people going the extra mile in the name of style. Minimalist it might be, but his site – a basic scroll of full-length street portraits, occasionally annotated with a brief note – is mesmeric and oddly beautiful. The site attracts more than 70,000 readers a day and has been named one of Time's Top 100 Design Influences. So if you're out and about and a guy called Scott asks to take your picture, just smile. You're about to become a style icon.
21. Students for a free Tibet
Taking the protest online, Students for a Free Tibet (SFT) is a global, grassroots network of students campaigning to free Tibet, which has been occupied by China since 1950. Students in Tibet face arrest for posting on the site, but many escape to blog about their experiences in exile. With a history of direct action, the group is now uniting worldwide members through the web, blogging to spread word of news and protests, and using sites like Facebook to raise funds. The organisation, which was founded in 1994 in New York, spans more than 35 countries and gets up to 100,000 hits a month. In 2006, SFT used a satellite link at Mount Everest base camp to stream live footage on to YouTube of a demonstration against Chinese Olympic athletes practising carrying the torch there. Later this year the web will be a critical tool in organising and reporting protests during the games. 'SFT plans to stage protests in Beijing during the games and post blogs as events unfold,' says Iain Thom, the SFT UK national co-ordinator. 'But for security reasons we can't reveal details of how or where yet.' Similarly, a massive protest in London on 10 March will be the subject of intense cyber comment. In response, the site has fallen victim to increasingly sophisticated cyber attacks. Investigations have traced the sources back to China, leading to speculation that the Chinese authorities are trying to sabotage the site to stop online critics.
22. Jezebel
Last year Gawker Media launched Jezebel – a blog which aimed to become a brilliant version of a women's magazine. It succeeded quickly, in part by acknowledging the five big lies perpetuated by the women's media: The Cover Lie (female forgeries of computer-aided artistry); The Celebrity-Profile Lie (flattery, more nakedly consumerist and less imaginative than the movies they're shilling for); The Must-Have Lie (magazine editors are buried in free shit); The Affirmation Crap Lie (you are insecure about things you didn't know it was possible to be insecure about); and The Big Meta Lie (we're devastatingly affected by the celebrity media). Their regular 'Crap Email From a Dude' feature is especially fantastic, as is their coverage of current stories (opinionated and consistently hilarious) and politics. It offers the best lady-aimed writing on the web, along with lots of nice pictures of Amy Winehouse getting out of cars.
23. Gigazine
Created by Satoshi Yamasaki and Mazaki Keito of Osaka, Gigazine is the most popular blog in Japan, covering the latest in junk foods and beverages, games, toys and other ingredients of colourful pop product culture. Visitors first witness 'eye candy' such as David Beckham condoms (from China), 75 turtles in a fridge, the packaging for Mega Frankfurters or a life-size Ferrari knitted from wool, learn of a second X-Files movie moving into pre-pre-production, watch a vacuum-cleaning robot being tested and compare taste reports of Kentucky Fried Chicken's new Shrimp Tsuisuta Chilli.
24. Girl with a one-track mind
Following in the footsteps of Belle de Jour – the anonymous blogger claiming to be a sex worker – the girl with a one track mind started writing in open, explicit terms about her lively sex life in 2004. By 2006, the blog was bookified and published by Ebury, and spent much time on bestseller lists, beach towels and hidden behind the newspapers of serious-looking commuters. Though she was keen to retain her anonymity and continue her career in the film industry, author 'Abby Lee' was soon outed as north Londoner Zoe Margolis by a Sunday newspaper.
Founded by Peter Cashmore in 2005, Mashable is a social-networking news blog, reporting on and reviewing the latest developments, applications and features available in or for MySpace, Facebook, Bebo and countless lesser-known social-networking sites and services, with a special emphasis on functionality. The blog's name Mashable is derived from Mashup, a term for the fusing of multiple web services. 26. Greek tragedy
Stephanie Klein's blog allows her to 'create an online scrapbook of my life, complete with drawings, photos and my daily musings' or, rather, tell tawdry tales of dating nightmares, sexual encounters and bodily dysfunctions. Thousands of women tune in for daily accounts of her narcissistic husband and nightmarish mother-in-law and leave equally self-revealing comments transforming the pages into something of a group confessional. The blog has been so successful that Klein has penned a book, Straight Up and Dirty, and has featured in countless magazine and newspaper articles around the globe. Not bad for what Klein describes as 'angst online'.
27. Holy Moly
If a weekly flick through Heat just isn't enough, then a daily intake of Holy Moly will certainly top up those celeb gossip levels. The UK blog attracts 750,000 visitors a month and 240,000 celeb-obsessees subscribe to the accompanying weekly mail-out. It's an established resource for newspaper columnists – both tabloid and broadsheet – and there's a daily 'News from the Molehill' slot in the free London paper The Metro. Last month Holy Moly created headlines in its own right by announcing a rethink on publishing paparazzi shots. The blog will no longer publish pics obtained when 'pursuing people in cars and on bikes', as well as 'celebrities with their kids', 'people in distress at being photographed' and off-duty celebs. But don't think that means the omnipresent celeb blog that sends shivers round offices up and down the country on 'mail-out day' is slowing down – there has been talk of Holy Moly expanding into TV.
28. Michelle Malkin
Most surveys of web use show a fairly even gender balance online, but political blogging is dominated by men. One exception is Michelle Malkin, a conservative newspaper columnist and author with one of the most widely read conservative blogs in the US. That makes her one of the most influential women online. Her main theme is how liberals betray America by being soft on terrorism, peddling lies about global warming and generally lacking patriotism and moral fibre.
29. Cranky flier
There's nowhere to hide for airlines these days. Not with self-confessed 'airline dork' Brett Snyder, aka Cranky Flier, keeping tabs on their progress. He's moved on from spending his childhood birthdays in airport hotels, face pressed against the window watching the planes come in, and turned his attention to reporting on the state of airlines. His CV is crammed with various US airline jobs, which gives him the insider knowledge to cast his expert eye over everything from the recent 777 emergency landing at Heathrow to spiralling baggage handling costs and the distribution of air miles to 'virtual assistants'.
30. Go fug yourself
It's a neat word, fug – just a simple contraction of 'ugly' and its preceding expletive – but from those three letters an entire fugging industry has grown. At Go Fug Yourself, celebrity offenders against style, elegance and the basic concept of making sure you're covering your reproductive organs with some form of clothing before you leave the house are 'fugged' by the site's writers, Jessica Morgan and Heather Cocks. In their hands, the simple pleasure of yelping 'Does she even OWN a mirror?' at a paparazzi shot of some B-list headcase in fuchsia becomes an epic battle against dull Oscar gowns, ill-fitting formalwear and Lindsay Lohan's leggings. The site stays on the right side of gratuitous nastiness by dishing out generous praise when due (the coveted 'Well Played'), being genuinely thoughtful on questions of taste and funnier on the subject of random starlets in sequined sweatpants than you could possibly even imagine.
31. Gaping void
In the middle of a career as an adman in New York, Hugh MacLeod found himself doodling acerbic and almost surreal cartoons on the back of people's business cards to pass the time in bars. Everyone seemed to like the idea, so he kept going. Things started going gangbusters when he pimped his cartoons on the internet, and as he built an audience through his blog, he started writing about his other passion – the new world of understanding how to adapt marketing to the new world of the net. Remember when everybody was madly printing off vouchers from the web that saved you 40 per cent? That was one of his: aimed at helping shift more bottles from Stormhoek, the South African vintner he works with.
If someone stole your camera, took it out for the night to parties you yourself aren't cool enough to go to and returned it in the morning, you would probably find it loaded up with pictures like those posted on DirtyDirtyDancing. The site seems pretty lo-fi – just entries called things like 'Robin's birthday' and 'FEB16' featuring pages of images of hip young things getting their party on. And that's it. The original delight was in logging on to see if you'd made it on to the site – your chances increase exponentially if you're beautiful, avant-garde and hang out at clubs and parties in the edgier parts of London – but now the site can get up to 900,000 hits a month from all over the world.
With a title pulled from Immanuel Kant's famous statement that 'out of the crooked timber of humanity, no straight thing was ever made', it's an amalgam of academic and political writing that has muscled its way into the epicentre of intelligent discussion since its conception in 2003. Formed as an internet supergroup, pulling several popular intellectual blogs together, Crooked Timber now has 16 members – largely academics – across the US, Europe, Australia and Asia. Combining diary, opinion and green lifestyle tips, Beansprouts is a blog that covers one family's 'search for the good life'. Melanie Rimmer and her family of five live in a 'small ex-council house' with a garden on the edge of farmland in Poynton, Cheshire. They grow food on an allotment nearby, keep chickens and bees and 'try to be green, whatever that means'. Rimmer set up the blog nearly two years ago when she first got the allotment and says she felt it was something worth writing about. Launched by 'Bob' after the success of his WorldCupBlog in 2006, Offside is a UK-based blog covering football leagues globally, gathering news and visuals on all of it, inviting countless match reports and promoting discussion on all things soccer, from the attack by a colony of red ants on a player in the Sao Paulo state championship third division, to the particular qualities of every one of Cristiano Ronaldo's goals so far this season. Considered by many to be the best 'serious' blog in the game, it nevertheless promises irreverently, 'If there is a sex scandal in England, we'll be stuck in the middle of it. If a player is traded for 1,000lb of beef in Romania, we'll cook the steak. And if something interesting happens in Major League Soccer, we'll be just as surprised as you.'
36. Peteite Anglaise
The tagline of a new book hitting British shelves reads 'In Paris, in love, in trouble', but if it were telling the whole story, perhaps it should read 'In public' too. Bored at work one day in 2004, expat secretary Catherine Sanderson happened upon the concept of blogging. With a few clicks and an impulse she created her own blog, and quickly gathered fans who followed her life in Paris, the strained relationship with her partner and adventures with her toddler. And there was plenty of drama to watch: within a year her relationship had broken up, and she'd met a new man who wooed her online. Readers were mesmerised by her unflinching dedication to telling the whole story, no matter how she would be judged. Soon afterwards, however, Sanderson's employers found out about the blog and promptly fired her. Defeat turned into victory, however, with the press attention she gathered from the dismissal not only securing victory in an industrial tribunal, but also helping her score a lucrative two-book deal with Penguin.
Readers post a variety of comments on political talking points of the day, although 9/11 conspiracy theories are often deleted, and there is a daily round-up of notable stories on other political blogs.
38. Chocolate and Zucchini
For Clothilde Dusoulier, a young woman working in computing and living in the Paris district of Montmartre, starting a blog was a way of venting her boundless enthusiasm for food without worrying she might be boring her friends with it. Five years later Chocolate and Zucchini, one of the most popular cooking blogs, has moved from being a hobby to a full-time career. The mixture of an insider's view on gastronomic Paris, conversational, bilingual writing and the sheer irresistibility of her recipes pull in thousands of readers every day. This, in turn, has led to multiple books and the ability to forge a dream career as a food writer. The name of the blog is, she says, a good metaphor for her cooking style: 'The zucchini illustrates my focus on healthy and natural eating... and the chocolate represents my decidedly marked taste for anything sweet.'
39. Samizdata
Samizdata is one of Britain's oldest blogs. Written by a bunch of anarcho-libertarians, tax rebels, Eurosceptics and Wildean individualists, it has a special niche in the political blogosphere: like a dive bar, on the rational side of the border between fringe opinion and foam-flecked paranoid ranting. Samizdata serves its opinions up strong and neat, but still recognisable as politics. On the other side of the border, in the wilderness, the real nutters start.
Andrew Sullivan is an expat Brit, blogging pioneer and defier-in-chief of American political stereotypes. He is an economic conservative (anti-tax), a social liberal (soft on drugs) and a foreign policy hawk (pro-war). He endorsed George Bush in 2000 and John Kerry in 2004. Barack Obama is his preferred Democrat candidate in 2008. So he is either confused, a hypocrite or a champion of honest non-partisanship – depending on your point of view. He is also gay, a practising Roman Catholic and HIV-positive, a set of credentials he routinely deploys in arguments to confuse atheist liberals and evangelical conservatives.
42. Jonny B's private secret diary
Growing in popularity since its debut in 2003, Jonny B's diary – which is clearly neither private nor terribly secret – catalogues the rock and bowls lifestyle of one man in the depths of rural Norfolk. With the mocking self-awareness of a modern Diary of a Nobody, the author tells tales of wild nights at the village pub and the fortunes of the local bowls team. As a slow, gentle satire on modern village life, it is often held up as an example of blog as sitcom, and has not only attracted a loyal band of readers, but a dedicated fan club on Facebook desperate to work out the real identity of the wit behind the site. Previous guesses have included Chris Evans and Johnny Vaughan, though both have been strenuously denied.
44. Waiter rant
Rant isn't quite the right word for this collection of carefully crafted stories from the sharp end of the service industry in a busy New York restaurant. 'The Waiter', as the author is known, has been blogging his experiences with fussy customers and bad tippers since 2004, winning a gong at blogging's biggest awards, the Bloggies, in 2007. It's representative – but by no means the first – of the so-called 'job-blogs', with people from all walks of life, from ambulance drivers (randomactsofreality.net) and policemen (coppersblog.blogspot.com) to the greatly loved but now defunct Call Centre Confidential. Between them they chronicle life in their trade, and usually from behind a veil of anonymity. Something about the everyday nature of The Waiter – a person we like to pretend is invisible or treat with servile disdain – deconstructing the event later with a subtle, erudite typestroke, has captured the public imagination and (hopefully) made some people behave better in restaurants than they otherwise might.
The internet's not exactly short of gossip websites providing scurrilous rumours of who did what to whom, but some stand out from the rest. Sharply written and often laugh-out-loud funny, Hecklerspray has been called the British alternative to Perez Hilton, but it's different in important ways: the emphasis here is on style and wit, with a stated aim to 'chronicle the ups and downs of all that is populist and niche within the murky world of entertainment'. Basically, it's gossip for grown-ups.
WoWinsider reports on what's happening within WoW ('Sun's Reach Harbor has been captured'). It also reports on outside developments and rumours ('A future patch will bring a new feature: threat meters'). June, and asked founder David Karp to stay on as an employee. Do you
think he’ll still be with the company by Labor Day? I doubt it.

Forbes
reports that Karp walked away from the Yahoo! deal with roughly $200
million, so he doesn’t need the job. I think it is more than his
financial independence that will drive him out of Yahoo! In fact, my
guess is--and I’ve never met Karp in person--he is probably
unemployable.

Here are five signs that you, too, may be unemployable:

1. You’re smarter than your boss, even though you don’t have an MBA

True
entrepreneurs get bored quickly in school. The list of college dropouts
includes Tumblr’s Karp and other names you might know: Steve Jobs, Mark
Zuckerberg, Larry Ellison, Michael Dell and Bill Gates, to name just a
handful out of hundreds of household names that did not have the
patience for school.

Big companies use advanced degrees as a way
to filter out candidates for hiring and advancement; so if you don’t
have an MBA, you’ll forever be smarter than the guy or gal you’re
working for.

2. You get distracted easily

JetBlue’s
founder David Neeleman is one of the more public examples of the
well-documented link between ADD/ADHD and entrepreneurship. Some say his
ADD/ADHD contributed to the board removing Neeleman as JetBlue’s CEO in
2007. Many studies have made the connection between ADD/ADHD and
entrepreneurship. There is even a LinkedIn group called “The ADD/ADHD
Entrepreneur” for these entrepreneurs to connect online.

Signs
you have ADD/ADHD include being distracted easily, starting several
projects without finishing them, and being a hands-on learner. Sound
familiar? If so, don’t expect to last as a company man or woman.

3. You think visually

Have
you downloaded the Penultimate app for your iPad because you like to
draw ideas? Do you find yourself jumping to the white board in a meeting
room to try to describe a situation visually? An inclination towards
visual thinking is an indicator of ADD/ADHD and another sign you should
avoid getting a job where you have to lobby for your ideas in writing.

4. You have trouble listening to others

Some
of my favorite entrepreneurs love talking about themselves. They like
describing in detail their latest innovation, which is great if you’re
in the mood to be regaled. The problem is this: If you try to enter into
the discussion, their eyes start to drift, and it’s clear they are just
waiting for a lull in the conversation so they can start talking again.
It’s so natural, you probably don’t even know you’re doing it, so ask a
buddy you trust or a spouse who will give it to you straight. If you
tend to be distracted when other people are talking, avoid going to work
for someone who not only will want to talk, but who also will
expect--even insist--that you listen.

5. You start lots of projects that go unfinished

Be
honest: Do you find yourself starting something only to lose steam when
you come up with your next great idea? That’s fine if you run your own
company where you can delegate the execution to others, but it also
makes you difficult to manage. Bosses like innovation to a point, but
companies need employees who have the patience to see their ideas
through.

Every entrepreneur has been faced with the question:
Should I get a job? Some new grads decide to put their entrepreneurial
dreams on hold to get some training on someone else’s dime before they
start a business. Other owners get an offer to buy their company,
contingent on them working for the acquirer for a few years. In still
other cases, the entrepreneur’s company fails, leaving him with the
decision to start something new or get a job to make ends meet.

Which
leaves you, the entrepreneur, with one more question: Are you
employable? If not, you--like Karp--should probably stick with owning a
company, not working for one.
call the Christmas from Hell. It was 15 years ago, over the winter
holiday, that I had left my daughters with my father, Big Terry, and my
mother, Trish, so I could take my wife to dinner.
An hour later, I
was called home because my dad had beaten my mom -- again. This
happened all the time growing up, because Big Terry was an alcoholic.
But now he was doing it in front of my kids.
I rushed home and got the children out.
In the years since, Big Terry has tried to rationalize his behavior, whenever I dared pick up the phone.
"Terry,"
he said once, "I never had a father to show me how to be one. I got a
lot of pain, and all I tried to do was give you guys better than what I
had. I didn't know what else to do. I knew to give you a roof."
I
could hear the truth in that. But there were other times when he deluded
himself, and I couldn't stand to let him run off at the mouth like
that.
"I taught you guys everything you know," he said.
"No, Big T, that's not how it went down," I said.
In
all of these conversations, I always felt dissatisfied. I think I was
waiting for him to apologize, to really see how things had been, and
talk to me about it. And then it finally hit me that if
he was ever really going to get it, the moment of clarity had to start
from me. I had to tell him, honestly, what was up. I'd always looked at
my past as this horrible experience that I had to forget, as if it was
just a bad feeling that I had to move past.
But no, I needed to
sit in it and take those experiences for what they really were. It had
been bad, sure, but it had made me who I am. This didn't mean that some
of the things that had happened weren't wrong, but they had truly made
me stronger, and not just in the fantastical way of superheroes. Life
had made me stronger only because I had learned from it. Once I saw Big
Terry differently, I was able to identify the aspects of my childhood
that I appreciated, which was much different than the way I'd looked
back on my past before.
Much like I'd done on various sets, and
with various work relationships, I reframed my past, and my relationship
with my father: You knew your father. He was at home, and he cared
enough about you to clothe you, to feed you. He never beat you. He never
left the family. He could have cheated and run off with some girl.
I
started giving Big Terry credit for what he did do. He was a good
earner. He was a good provider. I never excused what had been wrong, but
also being able to see the positive finally changed my perspective. It
changed my view of our story.
Finally, it all became clear to me, and I called my father.
"Big Terry, I truly believe this, man," I said. "If I could choose who my parents were, I would choose you."
It
took a lot to say it, but it was the absolute truth. I realized if I
had Bill Cosby as a parent I could have ended up in a whole different
place, and not necessarily a good one, either. I've seen great kids come
from terrible parents, and I've seen awful kids come from the best
parents. And for me, Big Terry and Trish are how I got here.
"I would choose you all over again if I could pick my parents," I said. "I would pick you."
He
cried and he cried. And talk about a breakthrough, as soon as those
words came out of my mouth, everything changed. He was suddenly humble.
"Terry, I'm sorry for what I did to you and Marcelle," he said. "I was wrong."
WOW.
As much as I had longed for an apology from my father for all of those
years, I had never really thought it was possible. But by finding my own
compassion for him, I had broken down everything that needed to be
broken within him. Before that, I'd always hoped that when he got
himself together, he'd come to me. I'd always been waiting for him.
When, really, he was just waiting for that from me.
like our facebook page @ www.facebook.com/gistitup
Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07255123448407547977noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5846787268162683185.post-80516890648835205822014-06-07T06:23:00.001-07:002014-06-07T06:23:54.786-07:00HOW TO BECOME AN A-LIST BLOGGERNever mind that people don’t usually celebrate bloggers yet in
Nigeria, just like the entertainment industry and fans do for their most
talented and favourite celebs.
That will soon start to happen. Oh, it has already started to happen.
While I and a few bloggers have been listed or mentioned around the
web as the most popular and influential bloggers in Nigeria based on our
blog’s ranking, influence and branding, I believe that’s not enough to
say we’re there yet or we should be celebrated.
Rather, we’re still scratching the surface.
But beyond lists, there are quite a good number of lessons
that bloggers can learn from the entertainment industry — specifically —
the Nollywood, Music and Comedy Industry.
Here are 4 ways that bloggers can become celebrities (or A-List Bloggers) in their own right:

Bloggers will have to make their appearances felt beyond just their blogs –
On Twitter. On Radio. On TV. On Billboards. At Events. Everywhere — if
they’re to become the D’banj’s and Mercy Johnson’s of Nigeria’s emerging
Blogging Industry.

Bloggers will have to attract a huge following
or fan base (literally) as well as build a unique voice and style to
become the Basket Mouth’s and the Princess’s of the emerging Blogging
Industry.

Bloggers will have to figure out a method or a combination of methods to make serious money
(with revenues in the excess of $10,000 monthly) from their content,
brand and influence, not just relying on paltry sums from Google Adsense
and other ad networks. (Note: Big brands with deep pockets are watching
the blog space!)

Bloggers will have to live in the world of make believe.

There are
very rare men who use porn without masturbation. Many women in a
relationship feel that their partner’s use of porn is adultery. However,
men do not believe they have committed adultery. An addiction to
pornography can not be overcome immediately. To understand porn
addiction one has to understand what is the reason behind porn
addiction. The usual reason behind porn addiction in most cases is
masturbation. Let's take a closer look, in order to masturbate you
either use porn or make up fantasies in your head. Most addicts prefer
porn rather than making up fantasies in their head. When you use porn
you masturbate. Not because porn "hijacked" your brain and made you
masturbate, the real underlying reason for you using porn is because you
wanted to masturbate that is why you used porn. The main reason behind
porn addiction is masturbation addiction because you need to use porn in
order to masturbate. If you are addicted to porn and masturbation you
need to first correctly overcome masturbation addiction then you can
stop your addiction to porn. It is impossible to stop porn addiction
without first correctly stopping masturbation addiction.

The pornography addicted person becomes so occupied with looking for the
next fantasy that they spend hours and sometimes days searching the
internet and wasting thousands upon thousands of dollars, destroying
their relationship and in some cases risking their job and getting into
legal trouble. That very same time and money can be spend much better
once the person overcomes porn addiction.

How To Overcome Pornography Addiction
To overcome pornography addiction, first you need identify if you are
also addicted to masturbation. Usually the force behind porn addiction
is masturbation addiction. If you are addicted to masturbation and want
to stop your porn addiction, you will need to overcome masturbation
addiction first. You can not stop porn addiction without first dealing
with masturbation addiction. A very few men who do not masturbate and
use only porn. It takes time to overcome porn addiction. If you install
porn blocking software, cut off cable or get rid of the TV, it will not
help in the long run. Even if all the porn in the world was gotten rid
of you will just make up fantasies in you head to fulfill your sexually
addictive interest.

Masturbation Addiction
The following questions will help you evaluate whether or not you're addicted to masturbation.

-Is masturbation a hobby to you?

-Do you do it when you are bored?

-Do you feel like, "I need to masturbate," the same way an alcoholic feels, "I need a drink"?

-If you are single, do you prefer to stay home and masturbate rather than go out and try to build an intimate relationship?

-Do you experience masturbation hangover (disoriented, fatigued, and stressed after masturbating)?

-Do you wish you could go a week without masturbating?

-Do you masturbate to the point of exhaustion?

-Does masturbation cause you physical pain?

-After you have sex with your partner do you need to masturbate?

-Do you prefer masturbation to having sex with your partner?

-Does masturbation hinder you from having sex with your partner?

-Are you impotent with your partner but capable of masturbation?

-If your partner turns you down for sex, do you find that you must masturbate?

-Do you sneak masturbation in at work? Do you do it in the car or in public places?

-Do you rely on masturbation to relieve stress?

-Does masturbation get in the way of accomplishing the things you want to do?

-Do you wish that your partner or people you meet were as exciting as your masturbation fantasies?

-Do you feel proud of yourself when you are able to not masturbate and feel unhappy when you do masturbate?

If you think you have a masturbation addiction. Don't beat yourself up.
Addictive masturbation is not a sin; it is not perverted or disgusting.
It's a problem, not a moral weakness. Don't treat yourself like a
horrible person. You have a problem, nothing more - or less. Addictive
masturbation takes a great toll on a person, but don't expect yourself
to overcome a masturbation addiction today. It takes time. You're better
off understanding that you are not ready than you are demanding the
impossible of yourself. Don't avoid relationships because you have a
masturbation problem. You can still build a good relationship even
though you are struggling with masturbation addiction.

A person addicted to masturbation believes that in order to stop he or
she must stop the behavior for period of time. Some believe they must
refrain from all sex for a short period of time in hope of stopping the
addiction. You have been acting addictively for years. You have nearly
destroyed your healthy, comfortable lifestyle in order to indulge in
this addiction. Addiction has become very important to you. Stopping
just the behavior essentially is not enough. You need to deal with the
underlying issues for your masturbation addiction. That does not mean
you need to look in the past or your environment. Licensed therapists
advise people that if you want to stop your masturbation addiction, just
have sex with your wife or girlfriend instead of masturbating. That
advice not only makes your addiction worse but your lovemaking with your
partner also cheapens to just a substitute of your addictive behavior.
Overcoming masturbation addiction increases sexual pleasure in your life
because you can satisfy your natural sexual need for intimacy and
actually feel good about it.

this blog, saw the title of this post, got extremely embarrassed and
closed the browser as soon as possible. Sorry guys, but sometimes you
gotta eat a little shit. If HR comes by to have a talk with you you can
look the Devil in the eye and see what you’ve sold your soul to.)
We could be PC and pretend masturbating and internet porn don’t
exist, but they do. And there is a very big problem with internet porn.
Internet porn is a succubus whore from Hell intent on draining you of
your vital seed, your testosterone, your energy, and your desire to
succeed and conquer.
Or, to put it mildly, masturbating to internet porn does not do a
body good. Internet porn is like a drug addiciton. The access to endless
variety of porn causes your to constantly search for the “perfect”
scene. This leads to massive overstimulation of the brain, the
overstimulation causes a dopamine (dope) release into the brain (your
fix). After you have an orgasm it’s like coming down off a drug. After
all that excitement, that endless stimuli for the brain, your body just
shuts off and you turn into a lazy piece of shit. How many time have you
been about to do something, decided to just have a “quick one”, and by
the end 30 minutes later had no motivation to do anything? I already
know the answer: a lot.

Here are 10 reasons to stop masturbating to internet porn:

1) Internet porn saps you of precious energy – When
you give up the porn and the endless masturbation sessions you have a
lot more energy and drive. You want to get out and take care of
business. You want to make money, you want to hit the weights, and you
want to go and talk to that cute little blonde in the cereal aisle – and
you just may have blueballs enough to do it.
2) Internet porn can lead to erectile dysfunction –
Keep at it and eventually you will only be aroused by internet porn.
Right now guys in their TWENTIES and even guys in their TEENS are having
trouble getting hard without porn. They have to keep finding more and
more disgusting and outrageous porn scenes to satisfy their hunger.
Eventually nothing will do it but seeing a naked black man buttfucking a
dog. That’s serious business. Keep up with the porn and it will happen
to you too.
3) Internet porn will make you will want to stop having sex
– Why bother with sex when you have every fantasy in the world
available at one of your hands? Japan is a notoriously porn friendly
country. Japan is saturated with porn. In Japan there is an entire
culture of young guys called “Herbivores”. These herbivores have no
desire for sex. All this porn and now the guys don’t want girls, they
want sex with their hand, or sex with robots or nothing at all. Japan
now has the lowest birthrate in the world. Can you see the connection?
4) After you stop masturbating to internet porn your voice may become deeper – Straight from the horses mouth, this is what guys who have stopped masturbating are saying happens.
5) After you stop masturbating to internet porn you will have more self control and will power – I’m
telling you from personal experience you just plain feel better and
stronger and more masculine. It’s the opposite feeling after
masturbating to internet porn.
6) After you stop masturbating to internet porn your Testosterone will rise – According to this article, Testosterone
is slightly higher when abstaining from orgasm. And it does rise
slightly during sexual activity—before dropping back down to normal.
Having sex with a real life girl increases your testosterone while
having sex with your hand and sitting in front of a computer with 5
different pages open decreases it. I don’t need a science article to
tell me that, I know it to be true from experience.
7) After you stop masturbating to internet porn you will become calmer, more rational, and less anxious – Again, straight from the horses mouth. Check out the link below to see all the positive results guys are getting.
8) You will become more attractive to women - Let’s
assess the situation. Who do you think women find more attractive? A)
Guys who spend their time in the dark, jacking off to endless streams of
porn, finish after about an hour, take a nap, finally make it out in
the sunlight (or not) and can’t even look them in the eye. Or B) Guys
who don’t spend their time playing with themselves for hours, are full
of testosterone, not having spilled their precious seed twice that day,
have a deeper voice, and have the ability to make eye contact.
Easy answer.
9) You can stop getting viruses on your computer- Viruses
are a pain in the ass and can sometimes take days to deal with. Most
computer viruses come from porn. Eliminate the source, eliminate the
virus.
10) If you can’t believe me, then take the word of these
gentlemen who beat their addiction to internet porn and reaped the
benefits - There are 90 pages worth of positive results. I’ve only quoted from the first few pages:

“I really like where I’m at now. I am so much calmer. I am
losing my rage and anger which I am glad about. I have found out that
the temper I had was linked to this addiction.”

“Social anxiety was the problem I faced right from my childhood.
(I was too much interested in science, unlike normal kids, so I always
had a feeling that I was not ”one of them.”) I experienced huge
improvement in my confidence and selfassurance since cutting out porn. I
have more energy now and I am exercising daily. (I never did before.) I
now perceive myself as a self-assured, successful guy, rather than some
introverted jerk.”

“Daily exercise and porn abstinence really seem to help. I am
enjoying my new lifestyle now. In contrast, after I started watching
porn, my social anxiety was boosted.”

“I’ve noticed the longer I stay away from porn that it’s easier to talk to them [women], flirt and get into conversations.”

“One week after quitting porn and masturbation I met a new girl, which even a month ago would have been unimaginable to me”.

“Another thing is the extra attention I’m getting from the
opposite sex. I’ve never really had a problem talking to girls and
they’ve spoke to me in the past of course, but it’s incredible how often
girls start random conversations with me now! At a recent wedding I
went to, for example, there were few people on the dance floor and I
decided to get up and have a dance with my aunties. Then all of a sudden
I was surrounded by women who were all grabbing me and wanting to dance
with me! I’ll be honest; it felt good to have that attention!”

“It’s amazing how much of a difference there is. I’m a lot less
nervous, more coherent, confident, everything. It really does feel like
my real personality can come out.”

“The effect on my social life keeps getting better. I’m finding
it really easy to talk to people, especially women. Someone made a
comment to me the other day at my salsa class. Something like, “You like
to talk to the ladies, don’t you?” I didn’t even notice because I was
having so much fun but, when I think about it, he was right.”

“[Later] I started doing push-ups at work with some of the guys.
When I started out I was at like 15 push-ups, and I was struggling.
Well today is the first time I have been able to do them with these guys
since I have gone 60 days with just a couple orgasm/ejaculations. They
were shocked at how many push ups I could do. They all commented on not
seeing anyone increase from where I was at about 2 months ago to what I
am at now. Today I did 200 (not all at one time ). Maybe not superman
but a big improvement in a couple months.”

“The other is the way I carry myself. I walk with more
confidence. I feel better about myself. I do not feel like isolating
myself as much as I did in the past. Well actually the longer I go
without porn the more the desire to be with a woman is increasing.”

“[Later] Today is day 50 without porn. My body has healed very
well. NO ED problems or weak ejaculations like I suffered from just a
few months ago. So giving up porn and fantasy and going without orgasm
(mostly) for just this period of time has made big steps in healing the
damage I had done to myself. I also learned that I have gone far enough
that I can recover my peace of mind a little more easily after an
ejaculation.”

“When I do semen retention for 2 weeks, I notice these
benefits: 1) Face looks radiant and energetic (I may get occasional
double glances from girls in shopping mall or street) 2) Expression
looks carefree (not struggling for more energy, or not worrying about
negative stuff) More natural confidence without needing to adjust
thoughts. 3) Voice gets deeper and more charming (This, strangely,
makes both men and women like to talk with you.) 4) More positive
thoughts (The negative thoughts that used to bother seem so minor and
irrelevant – I can ‘get over’ issues easier.) 5) More calm emotionally
and easier to control myself 6) Exponential increase of stamina and
physical energy/strength.”

Sounds like the guys quoted above had other social problems in
addition to porn addiction, but even for the Average Joe quitting porn
and masturbation has real benefits. Keep your precious seed for
yourself. Don’t give it away every few hours while taking the drug of
internet porn. Let the confidence and the testosterone build up inside
of you instead of spilling it every day. And when you do give it away,
give it to a girl and not a kleenex. Winners don’t spend their time
jacking off. Of this I am sure. Try it for 30 days and see for yourself. You may just like the results.
like our facebook page @ www.facebook.com/gistitup
Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07255123448407547977noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5846787268162683185.post-51530694379581924862014-02-14T22:23:00.000-08:002014-02-14T22:23:00.024-08:00LEARN HOW TO PRAY IN DIFFERENT SITUATIONS

When we wonder how to pray, we seldom look to the Bible for guidance. The truth, however, is that the Bible is packed with praying people, and we can learn much from their examples.

Sometimes we have to dig through Scripture for models. We don’t always find an obvious tip-off, such as, "Lord, teach us to pray…" (Luke 11:1, NIV) Instead, we can look for strengths and situations. Many Bible figures showed courage and faith, but others found themselves in situations that brought out qualities they didn't know they had, just as your situation can do today.

How to Pray When Your Situation is Desperate

What if you feel backed into a corner? Your job, finances, or marriage may be in trouble and you wonder how to pray when danger threatens. David, a man after God’s own heart, knew that feeling, as King Saul pursued him across the hills of Israel, trying to kill him. The slayer of the giant Goliath, David understood where his strength came from:

"I lift up my eyes to the hills—where does my help come from? My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth." (Psalm 121:1-2, NIV)

Desperation seems more the norm than the exception in the Bible. The night before his death, Jesus told his confused and anxious disciples how to pray at such times:

"Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me." (John 14:1, NIV)

When you feel desperate, trusting in God calls for an act of the will. You can pray to the Holy Spirit, who will help you overcome your emotions and put your trust in God instead. This is hard, but Jesus gave us the Holy Spirit as our Helper for times like these.

How to Pray When Your Heart is Broken

Despite our heartfelt prayers, things don’t always go the way we want. A loved one dies. You lose your job. The outcome is just the opposite of what you asked for. What then?

Jesus' friend Martha was brokenhearted when her brother Lazarus died. She told Jesus so. God wants you to be honest with him. You can give him your anger and disappointment.

What Jesus told Martha applies to you today:

"I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?" (John 11:25-26, NIV)

Of course, we should not expect Jesus to raise our loved one from the dead, as he did Lazarus. But we should expect our believer to live eternally in heaven, as Jesus promised. God will mend all our broken hearts in heaven. I don’t know how he will do that, but I believe with all my being that he will.

Jesus promised in his Sermon on the Mount that God does hear the prayers of the brokenhearted:

"Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted." (Matthew 5:3-4, NIV)

We pray best when we offer God our pain in humble sincerity, and Scripture tells us how our loving Father responds:

"He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds." (Psalm 147:3, NIV)

How to Pray When You Are Ill
Clearly God wants us to come to him with our physical and emotional illnesses. The Gospels, especially, are filled with accounts of people coming boldly to Jesus for healing. Not only did he encourage such faith, he delighted in it.

When a group of men couldn't get their friend close enough to Jesus, they made a hole in the roof of the house where he was preaching and lowered the paralyzed man down to him. First Jesus forgave his sins, then he made him walk.

On another occasion, as Jesus was leaving Jericho, two blind men sitting by the roadside shouted at him. They didn't whisper. They didn't talk. They shouted!

"The crowd rebuked them and told them to be quiet, but they shouted all the louder, 'Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us!'" (Matthew 20:31, NIV)

Was the co-creator of the universe offended? Did he ignore them and keep walking?

"Jesus stopped and called them. 'What do you want me to do for you?' he asked. 'Lord,' they answered, 'we want our sight.' Jesus had compassion on them and touched their eyes. Immediately they received their sight and followed him." (Matthew 20:32-34, NIV)

Have faith in God. Be bold. Be persistent. If, for his own mysterious reasons, God does not heal your illness, you can be sure he will answer your prayer for supernatural strength to endure it.

How to Pray When You are Thankful

Life has miraculous moments. The Bible records dozens of situations where people express their gratitude to God. Many forms of thanks please him.

When God saved the fleeing Israelites by parting the Red Sea:

"Then Miriam the prophetess, Aaron’s sister, took a tambourine in her hand, and all the women followed her, with tambourines and dancing." (Exodus 15:20, NIV)

After Jesus rose from the dead and ascended into heaven, his disciples:

"…worshiped him and returned to Jerusalem with great joy. And they stayed continually at the temple, praising God." (Luke 24:52-53, NIV)

God desires our praise. You can shout, sing, dance, laugh, and cry with tears of joy. Sometimes your finest prayers have no words at all, but God, in his infinite goodness and love, will understand perfectly.

Jack Zavada, a career writer and contributor for About.com, is host to a Christian website for singles. Love is expressed as an action and experienced as a feeling. Yet, love has an essence that resists defining in any single way — it encompasses compassion, determination, tolerance, endurance, support, faith, and much more. If you're in the dark about how to love, this article should give you some food for thought, and perhaps teach you a little bit about how to love yourself, love the world, and love other people just a little bit more.

Accept your past: If you’ve been hurt in the past, you really need to begin to cope with that feeling before you can love someone else. You may feel that things you did in the past will make you unlovable, or that you have too many problems to be lovable. Maybe you feel that because your past relationships failed, all others are doomed to fail as well. But this is not the case and you should never feel for a moment that what has happened to you before will keep you from being happy now. Accept the things that happened to you, forgive, and move on.

Get rid of the list: You know the list: that compendium of requirements that a potential partner or friend must meet, kept in your head or even written down. Yeah, get rid of that. Recognize that by keeping such a list, you’re creating the person you want to be with, rather than meeting the person you’re meant to be with. Real people don’t fit in boxes. You can certainly keep in mind qualities that you want a person to have, but don’t require someone to meet all of them and make sure you’ve got your priorities in order.

Reconsider your priorities: If you’re putting a nice butt before a stable personality, you’re going to have a really tough time in relationships. Same goes for things like valuing friends who get you into the best clubs over friends who’ll hold your hair back while you puke. Take those items from your list (discussed above) and separate them out into wants vs needs. Then take a hard look at why you prioritize the things you do.

Open yourself to new possibilities: Once you’ve given some hard thought to what really matters to you in your relationships, take another look at the people around you and the people that you meet every day. Maybe people you’d previously dismissed will suddenly seem okay. You’ll find...potential. And that’s all you need to start with. Potential may not feel like love at first sight, but it can grow into the most beautiful and stable love you’ve experienced.

Love yourself: Before loving anyone else, you have to love yourself. This is important on so many levels. It will show you how to experience love, it will send a message to people you love that you are worth loving in return, and it will make you a better lover because you will not be hindered by self-doubt and confidence issues.

If you have problems loving yourself, then change yourself. Build your self confidence by doing something wonderful and being a better person. Conquer all of your bad habits that make you self-conscious. Just don’t expect to make yourself into the perfect person, because perfect people do not exist.

Have something to offer others: When you go to start a relationship, be it romantic or platonic, you’ll want to be sure that you bring something to that relationship. Having nothing to offer will give you and probably the other person the sense that you are a leech. Work on giving as much as you take, in all your relationships, and you’ll be set for success.

Be vulnerable: Unfortunately, loving someone means that they can hurt you. This is normal and okay (and almost inevitable). But if you want to have real love, you need to allow yourself to open with that person. Don’t keep secrets from them, don’t pretend to be someone you aren’t, but instead give them the opportunity to know the real you.

Give it time: Don’t force love and don’t try to speed it up. This will only create false feelings which drain you emotionally and leave you feeling empty and unsatisfied. You can’t rush love. But believe that it will come because it most certainly will. You just have to find the right person.

like our facebook page @ www.facebook.com/gistitup
Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07255123448407547977noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5846787268162683185.post-14765587056845910392014-02-12T21:05:00.001-08:002014-02-12T21:05:37.252-08:00NOKIA TO RELEASE ITS FIRST ANDROID PHONEwhose mobile-device business will soon be bought by Microsoft, plans to
introduce this month a smartphone powered by a version of Google's
Android mobile software, according to people familiar with the matter.

Nokia
engineers had been developing the Android phone before Microsoft struck
the €5.4 billion ($7.4 billion) deal last September to buy Nokia's
handset business and license the Finnish company's patents. It hasn't
been clear before now whether Nokia would move ahead with the Android
phone, expected to be introduced at the Mobile World Congress industry
trade show starting Feb. 24.

The decision to release the Android
phone underscores how badly Microsoft and Nokia each miscalculated in
the mobile market. For technical reasons, Microsoft's Windows Phone
operating system doesn't yet work on the low-cost smartphones that have
become big sources of growth, particularly in emerging markets.

Nokia
was once the king of cellphones in emerging markets. But it has lost
ground because it was slow to respond to Android's popularity in many
countries. In India, where Nokia's Symbian-powered phones held a big
share of cellphone sales just a few years ago, Android was installed on
93% of new smartphones shipped there last year, according to estimates
from research firm IDC.

"Android has the entry-level smartphone
market almost all to itself," said Neil Mawston, an analyst at research
firm Strategy Analytics. "Microsoft's missteps in the low-end smartphone
market are costing it and Nokia huge amounts of lost volume."

At
least for now, Microsoft appears willing to outsource part of its phone
lineup to Android to boost volumes and support its handset
manufacturing operation. Higher sales would help cover the high cost of
competing in a smartphone industry dominated by Google, Apple Inc. and
Samsung Electronics Co. , according to people familiar with the matter.

At
the same time, Microsoft will focus attention on Windows Phone devices
to better compete with pricier smartphones such as Apple's iPhones or
Samsung's Galaxy devices.

It isn't clear whether the Android
phone strategy is a stopgap measure while Microsoft refashions its
Windows Phone operating software to work on lower-priced smartphones.

The
Nokia phones will differ from most other Android smartphones, and won't
access some Google-developed features or Android apps from the Google
Play storefront, said the people familiar with the matter.

Instead,
the phone will come installed with digital services created by Nokia
and Microsoft, including mapping service Here and streaming music
service MixRadio, as well as a Nokia application store.

The
strategy echoes the approach of Amazon.com Inc., AMZN -0.06% which has
used a modified version of Android for Kindle tablets that don't accept
Android apps.

Some mobile-phone companies in emerging markets
also sell Android phones that don't connect to the Google Play app
store. Google backs Android, but the software can be modified and
distributed by phone makers and developers.

Google declined to comment.

One
reason for the Nokia acquisition, Microsoft executives have said, was
to improve its chances of hooking consumers in emerging markets.

When
those phone buyers move up into pricier smartphones with more features,
Microsoft executives have said they want to ensure the company is in a
position to grab a slice of those upwardly mobile consumers.

Phones
with low prices "are often the first connection with technology that
people in many places in the world have with any kind of communications
or information technology device," Steve Ballmer, then Microsoft's CEO,
said in a conference call in September. "We look at that as an excellent
feeder system."

Microsoft said last fall that it needed to sell
50 million Lumia phones to break even on the business. Last month, Nokia
said it sold 30 million of its Lumia Windows phones in all of 2013.
like our facebook page @ www.facebook.com/gistitup
Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07255123448407547977noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5846787268162683185.post-48464656011132952852014-02-11T22:05:00.000-08:002014-02-11T22:05:00.305-08:00FULL BIOGRAPHY OF WIZKID

Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun a.k.a Wizkid is a talented singer, songwriter and performer. He kicked off his singing career at the early age of 11 when he recorded his first song with one of Nigeria's celebrated music icons, OJB Jezreel. He went on to record a 7-track album, which he released in his church in Lagos, under the name of Lil' Prinz;
this was just a stint that earned him a remarkable deal of
encouragement and recognition from family, his church and other
artistes.

Years later in 2006, with a new stage name, and a passion for making music and God-given talent, Wizkid
got back into the studio to hone his craft. He continued to develop as a
Singer and Songwriter by working under some of Nigeria's biggest
Musical names such as OJB Jezreel, Naeto C, Ikechukwu
and many others. Over the next few years his talent as a Singer and
Songwriter became evident and it resulted in Wiz being prominently
featured alongside some of the biggest Artistes in Nigeria's Music
Industry to much critical and commercial acclaim.

2009 would prove to be Wizkid's break-out year, as his collaboration with M.I on "Fast Money, Fast Cars"
on the Talk About It album drew major attention to his distinct voice,
singing style and penchant for great songwriting. He went on to feature
on Kel's "Turn by Turn", the Barcelos radio jingle and many other high profile projects. He also got signed to Banky W's Empire Mates Entertainment, and featured prominently on Banky's "The W Experience" album.

At the age of 20, this extremely talented and
charming young man had already achieved so much, thanks to his drive and
focus for turning his life's experiences into incredible music. In
2010, he released his first singles, "Holla at your Boy", "Gidi Girl" and "Ori Mi" with label mate, Skales; then there was the hit song, "Tease Me"
which was just a studio freestyle that got leaked online and turned
into a big hit in different parts of Nigeria and among Nigerians
worldwide.

He bagged the coveted award for the Promising
Artiste of the Year at the 2010 edition of the Dynamix All Youth Awards,
collaborated with several artistes and performed at some A-list events;
some of which include the Soundcity Music Video Awards, Lord of the
Ribs Lagos, Rhythm Unplugged, the Shutdown Concert with Rick Ross, the
Koko Concert, Crack Ya Ribs Lagos, Face of Selera 2010 Abuja just to

The first Pope of the Americas Jorge Mario Bergoglio hails from
Argentina. The 76-year-old Jesuit Archbishop of Buenos Aires is a prominent
figure throughout the continent, yet remains a simple pastor who is deeply loved
by his diocese, throughout which he has travelled extensively on the underground
and by bus during the 15 years of his episcopal ministry.

“My people are poor and I am one of them”, he has said more than
once, explaining his decision to live in an apartment and cook his own supper.
He has always advised his priests to show mercy and apostolic courage and to
keep their doors open to everyone. The worst thing that could happen to the
Church, he has said on various occasions, “is what de Lubac called spiritual
worldliness”, which means, “being self-centred”. And when he speaks of social
justice, he calls people first of all to pick up the Catechism, to
rediscover the Ten Commandments and the Beatitudes. His project is simple: if
you follow Christ, you understand that “trampling upon a person’s dignity is a
serious sin”.

of only a few lines, at least until his appointment as Archbishop of Buenos
Aires — he became a reference point because of the strong stances he took during
the dramatic financial crisis that overwhelmed the country in 2001.

He was born in Buenos Aires on 17 December 1936, the son of
Italian immigrants. His father Mario was an accountant employed by the railways
and his mother Regina Sivori was a committed wife dedicated to raising their
five children. He graduated as a chemical technician and then chose the path of
the priesthood, entering the Diocesan Seminary of Villa Devoto. On 11 March 1958
he entered the novitiate of the Society of Jesus. He completed his studies of
the humanities in Chile and returned to Argentina in 1963 to graduate with a
degree in philosophy from the Colegio de San José in San Miguel. From 1964 to
1965 he taught literature and psychology at Immaculate Conception College in
Santa Fé and in 1966 he taught the same subject at the Colegio del Salvatore in
Buenos Aires. From 1967-70 he studied theology and obtained a degree from the
Colegio of San José.

On 13 December 1969 he was ordained a priest by Archbishop Ramón
José Castellano. He continued his training between 1970 and 1971 at the
University of Alcalá de Henares, Spain, and on 22 April 1973 made his final
profession with the Jesuits. Back in Argentina, he was novice master at Villa
Barilari, San Miguel; professor at the Faculty of Theology of San Miguel;
consultor to the Province of the Society of Jesus and also Rector of the Colegio
Máximo of the Faculty of Philosophy and Theology.

On 31 July 1973 he was appointed Provincial of the Jesuits in
Argentina, an office he held for six years. He then resumed his work in the
university sector and from 1980 to 1986 served once again as Rector of the
Colegio de San José, as well as parish priest, again in San Miguel. In March
1986 he went to Germany to finish his doctoral thesis; his superiors then sent
him to the Colegio del Salvador in Buenos Aires and next to the Jesuit Church in
the city of Córdoba as spiritual director and confessor.

It was Cardinal Antonio Quarracino, Archbishop of Buenos Aires,
who wanted him as a close collaborator. So, on 20 May 1992 Pope John Paul II
appointed him titular Bishop of Auca and Auxiliary of Buenos Aires. On 27 May he
received episcopal ordination from the Cardinal in the cathedral. He chose as
his episcopal motto, miserando atque eligendo, and on his coat of arms
inserted the ihs, the symbol of the Society of Jesus.

He gave his first interview as a bishop to a parish newsletter,
Estrellita de Belém. He was immediately appointed Episcopal Vicar of the
Flores district and on 21 December 1993 was also entrusted with the office of
Vicar General of the Archdiocese. Thus it came as no surprise when, on 3 June
1997, he was raised to the dignity of Coadjutor Archbishop of Buenos Aires. Not
even nine months had passed when, upon the death of Cardinal Quarracino, he
succeeded him on 28 February 1998, as Archbishop, Primate of Argentina and
Ordinary for Eastern-rite faithful in Argentina who have no Ordinary of their
own rite.

Three years later at the Consistory of 21 February 2001, John
Paul ii created him Cardinal, assigning him the title of San Roberto Bellarmino.
He asked the faithful not to come to Rome to celebrate his creation as Cardinal
but rather to donate to the poor what they would have spent on the journey. As
Grand Chancellor of the Catholic University of Argentina, he is the author of
the books: Meditaciones para religiosos (1982), Reflexiones sobre la
vida apostólica (1992) and Reflexiones de esperanza (1992).

In October 2001 he was appointed General Relator to the 10th
Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops on the Episcopal Ministry.
This task was entrusted to him at the last minute to replace Cardinal Edward
Michael Egan, Archbishop of New York, who was obliged to stay in his homeland
because of the terrorist attacks on September 11th. At the Synod he placed
particular emphasis on “the prophetic mission of the bishop”, his being a
“prophet of justice”, his duty to “preach ceaselessly” the social doctrine of
the Church and also “to express an authentic judgement in matters of faith and
morals”.

All the while Cardinal Bergoglio was becoming ever more popular
in Latin America. Despite this, he never relaxed his sober approach or his
strict lifestyle, which some have defined as almost “ascetic”. In this spirit of
poverty, he declined to be appointed as President of the Argentine Bishops’
Conference in 2002, but three years later he was elected and then, in 2008,
reconfirmed for a further three-year mandate. Meanwhile in April 2005 he took
part in the Conclave in which Pope Benedict XVI was elected.

As Archbishop of Buenos Aires — a diocese with more than three
million inhabitants — he conceived of a missionary project based on communion
and evangelization. He had four main goals: open and brotherly communities, an
informed laity playing a lead role, evangelization efforts addressed to every
inhabitant of the city, and assistance to the poor and the sick. He aimed to
reevangelize Buenos Aires, “taking into account those who live there, its
structure and its history”. He asked priests and lay people to work together. In
September 2009 he launched the solidarity campaign for the bicentenary of the
Independence of the country. Two hundred charitable agencies are to be set up by
2016. And on a continental scale, he expected much from the impact of the
message of the Aparecida Conference in 2007, to the point of describing it as
the “Evangelii Nuntiandi of Latin America”.

Until the beginning of the recent sede vacante, he was a
member of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the
Sacraments, the Congregation for the Clergy, the Congregation for Institutes of
Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life, the Pontifical Council for the
Family and the Pontifical Commission for Latin America.

He was elected Supreme Pontiff on 13 March 2013.

Synopsis

Born on August 9, 1963, in Newark, New Jersey, Whitney Houston released her debut album at age 22 and scored three number one singles. Whitney (1987) delivered four more number ones and earned Houston her first Grammy. With her marriage to singer Bobby Brown in 1992, Houston's career got off track. She made a comeback with 2009's I Look to You. Houston died on February 11, 2012.

Quotes
"From the beginning, the camera and I were great friends. I know the eye of the camera is on me—eye to eye. It loves me, and I love it."
– Whitney Houston

Early Years
Born August 9, 1963 in Newark, New Jersey, Whitney Houston almost seemed destined from birth to become a singer. Her mother Cissy Houston, cousin Dionne Warwick and godmother Aretha Franklin were all legendary figures in American gospel and soul music. Cissy Houston was the choir minister at New Hope Baptist Church, and it was there that a young Whitney got her start. Even as a child, Whitney was able to wow audiences; she later told interviewer Diane Sawyer that a rapturous response from the congregation at New Hope had a powerful effect upon her: "I think I knew then that [my singing ability] was an infectious thing that God had given me."

By the time she turned 15, Whitney was performing often with her mother and trying to get a record deal of her own. Around the same time, she was discovered by a photographer who was awed by her natural beauty. She soon became an extremely sought-after teenage model, one of the first African American women to appear on the cover of Seventeen magazine. But music remained her true love.

When she was 19, Whitney Houston was discovered in a nightclub by the renowned Clive Davis of Arista Records, who signed her immediately and took the helm of her career as she navigated from gospel to pop stardom. In 1983, Houston made her debut on national television, appearing on The Merv Griffin Show to sing "Home" from the musical The Wiz. She and Davis spent the next two years working on her debut album, finding the best producers and songwriters available to showcase her amazing vocal talent.
Pop Stardom

In 1985, she released her debut album Whitney Houston and almost immediately became a smash pop sensation. Over the next year, her hit singles "Saving All My Love for You" and "How Will I Know" helped the album reach the top of the charts, where it stayed for fourteen non-consecutive weeks. Houston won a Grammy in 1986 for "Saving All My Love for You"; the award was presented to the singer by her cousin Dionne Warwick. Houston followed the monumental success of her first album with a second release, Whitney, in 1987. That record, too, went platinum many times over and won more Grammy Awards, leading to a successful world tour. During this time, the singer also appeared at a concert for Nelson Mandela's birthday and founded the Whitney Houston Foundation for Children, a nonprofit organization that funds projects to help needy children over the world.

By 1992, Whitney Houston was on top of the world, but her life was about to get very complicated very quickly. That year she married the R&B singer Bobby Brown, formerly of New Edition, after a three-year engagement.
At first the marriage was passionate and loving, but things turned sour as the decade progressed and both Brown and Houston battled substance abuse and increasingly erratic behavior.

In spite of these growing personal troubles, Whitney Houston continued to progress in her career, crossing over successfully into acting in 1992 by starring opposite Kevin Costner in the wildly popular The Bodyguard. With this movie,
Contents

she set a trend for her films to follow: in each film she also released a hit single, creating sensational record sales for the soundtracks. Her smash single from The Bodyguard, a cover of Dolly Parton's 1974 "I Will Always Love You," proved to be Houston's biggest hit ever, spending a record-breaking fourteen weeks atop the U.S. charts. The soundtrack album went on to win Houston three Grammys, including Album of the Year and Record of the Year. Later in the 1990s, Houston also starred in The Preacher's Wife and Waiting to Exhale, both accompanied by hit soundtracks as well.
Troubled Times

In 1998, Houston released My Love Is Your Love, her first non-soundtrack studio album in many years, and it earned her another Grammy but could not top the chart performance of her previous albums. However, her collaboration with Mariah Carey in the animated film The Prince of Egypt produced a single, "When You Believe," which won an Academy Award.

In the late 1990s and early 2000s, Houston's increasingly rocky marriage, struggles with drugs and health problems threatened to derail her career. Several concert cancellations and a notorious TV interview with Diane Sawyer in 2002 in which Houston appeared far too thin and in very poor health led many to speculate that she was on the verge of a breakdown.

In 2004, Bobby Brown began filming a reality show for Bravo entitled Being Bobby Brown; Houston received substantial airtime. The show aired during the worst years of the couple's crumbling marriage; drug use, lifestyle excess and bad behavior were all caught on tape and Houston's reputation sunk to new lows. Houston tried to ignore the controversy, charging ahead with her music by releasing Just Whitney… to combat her detractors, but it did not match the success of her earlier works. In spite of her troubled relationship, Houston was still celebrated as a singer, being named the most-awarded female artist of all time by Guiness World Records in 2006.

Over the next few years, Houston attempted to repair her marriage and to break her drug habit, but after several relapses her mother, Cissy, had to step in. As Whitney Houston explained to Oprah Winfrey in 2009: "[My mother] walks in with the sheriff and she says: 'I have a court injunction here. You do it my way or we're not going to do this at all. You're going to go on TV, and you're going to retire. And say you're going to give this up because it's not worth it.'" Whitney took a break from her career, divorced Bobby Brown in 2007, and won sole custody of their child, Bobbi Kristina Houston Brown.

After almost a decade of struggling with her personal life, Houston seemed to be pulling herself together.

She released a new album, I Look To You, in 2009. "The songs themselves will speak to you and you'll understand where I am and some of the changes I've gone through for the better," Houston told Entertainment Tonight. The recording received a warm welcome from music fans, making to the top of album charts. Her live shows, however, garnered mixed reviews with some complaining about the quality of her voice.

Death and Legacy

In early 2012, Houston rumored to be experiencing financial trouble, but she denied this claim. She, in fact, seemed to be poised for a career upswing. Houston worked on a new musical film Sparkle with Jordin Sparks, a remake of the 1976 movie about an all-girl musical group similar to the Supremes. She had reportedly been approached to join the singing competition The X Factor as a judge. Unfortunately, Houston did not live long enough to see the latest comeback reach fruition.

Whitney Houston died on February 11, 2012, in Los Angeles. Houston had been seen out in the days before her death, including at one of the pre-Grammy Award parties. According to a report released by the Los Angeles County coroner's office on March 22, 2012, the official cause of her death was accidental drowning. The effects of heart disease and cocaine found in her system were contributing factors. With her passing, the music world has lost one of its most legendary stars. Her longtime supporter and mentor Clive Davis once said that Houston "is in the great tradition of great, great singers, whether it's Lena Horne or Ella Fitzgerald or Sarah Vaughn or Gladys Knight."
like our facebook page @ www.facebook.com/gistitup
Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07255123448407547977noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5846787268162683185.post-39171833063772582392014-02-10T21:15:00.004-08:002014-02-10T21:16:27.740-08:00Boko Haram: Victims starve, abandon children in Borno

The ongoing insurgency in Borno State has taken a new dimension as the incessant onslaughts of Boko Haram sect on residents of the state and lack of food have forced many parents to abandon their children at welfare homes and flee to the neighbouring states.

Sunday Tribune learnt that shortage of food and relentless killings in the state, which has been under emergency rule since last year, was responsible for the abandonment of children and forced migration, just as a community leader in Maiduguri, Malam Saina Buba, called on the state and Federal Government to come to the rescue of people affected by Boko Haram insurgency in the state.

According to Malam Buba, many parents in Gwoza, Damboa, Bama, Konduga and Abadam in northern Borno have fled for their dear lives and dumped their children at welfare homes in Maiduguri or elsewhere.

He said feeding had become a serious problem for most families in the state, noting that this had forced some fathers and mothers to leave their children at the mercy of welfare houses.

“I am calling on the government of Borno State to act promptly; many parents are abandoning their children in search of peace and food. In the last one week or two, we have lost over 250 people to insurgency and as we speak there are a lot of people who cannot return to their houses due to this crisis,” Malam Buba added.

He explained that philanthropists in Kano State came to the aid of victims when Boko Haram hit Kano, saying no person in Borno State had thought it wise to cater for the needs of Boko Haram victims in the state.

He accused wealthy citizens of the state of abandoning their kinsmen at home and that most of them had made Abuja their permanent abode since insurgency started in the state, stating that it would be kind of them to think of what they could do to alleviate the suffering of their kinsmen.
like our facebook page @ www.facebook.com/gistitup
Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07255123448407547977noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5846787268162683185.post-18553189734286779632014-02-10T21:13:00.001-08:002014-02-10T21:13:45.957-08:00 Military cannot end Boko Haram activities in the North – ACF

Northern socio-cultural group, the Arewa Consultative Forum, has said that the military campaign in the North-East cannot end the Boko Haram campaign.

The group said the military campaign can only reclaim territories occupied by the Boko Haram Sect.

The National Publicity Secretary, ACF, Anthony Sani, noted that the effort of the military had helped region greatly, as they had reduced the spread of terrorist attacks.

He said the military campaigns had, restricted activities of the sect to three states (Borno, Yobe and Adamawa), as attacks in areas outside the three states were no longer frequent.

Sani in statement said, “I do not think the military campaigns were designed to put an end to the activities of Boko Haram the way Nigerians expect because it is not that easy.

“The military campaigns were intended to reclaim the territories taken over by Boko Haram in the hope of making the Nigerian authorities to negotiate from a position of strength. And that is why the option of dialogue has not been closed.”

Sani further said, “ACF accepted the military option that came with the state of emergency, with the provision that rules of engagement would be adhered to strictly during the military campaigns. ACF has not changed its position on that.”

Similarly, former Head of State, Muhammad Buhari had on Wednesday scored the Nigerian Army low in the fight against the Boko Haram, in the North-East, saying there had been series of complaints that soldiers collect bribes at check-points and rape women during operations.

He said, “Now, there are accusations that they collect bribes at checkpoints, that they rape women during operations as was the case in Borno. That was not known before. Now, if you kill one of their own, they round up and wipe out the community like what happened at Baga.”
like our facebook page @ www.facebook.com/gistitup
Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07255123448407547977noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5846787268162683185.post-9704932065407295672014-02-07T22:14:00.002-08:002014-02-07T22:14:20.665-08:00How to Hack a 2go Account.. 101% percent real
